Leaf Shadow Art
Shadow Art is an amazing way to engage little ones in a creative activity and the best thing about it is that you can pretty much use anything. In this example, we’ve used leaves as they are easy to find, lightweight and easy to hang. Plus, they come in all different shapes, sizes, textures and colours allowing children to really experiment with all these different areas.
What you’ll need:
First, you’ll need to go and explore to find your perfect leaves, why not head off on a mini adventure walk and look for at least 6-8 leaves and try to find as many different ones as you can to keep things interesting.
Paper
Colouring pencils
Instructions:
Once you have your final collection of leaves, use some string and pegs to securely hang them in sunlight
Adjust them so that they cast a shadow onto the paper below
Then take a pencil and trace the outline of the leaf shape
Once the shape is ready you can go wild with the colouring in
This activity is wonderful for younger children, they can draw the leaves and then inspect them afterwards and play a game of spot the difference to see how the leaves differ from each other and why that might be.
Happy drawing!
