The Bee Hotel ๐โ โ
๐โ โ Build a Bee Hotel ๐โ โ
We really love this activity because it helps children to develop their understanding of nature, of all the little creatures within nature and how we can help protect them. Itโs the perfect opportunity to start the conversation with your child about why our bees are so important to us, their place in the eco system and how they help us with pollination.
This project is also great as it can encourage children to persevere with building something important for others. It most likely canโt be achieved all in one day and that is part of the learning process. It doesnโt need to be finished quickly, it can be something you take time with and re-visit with your child until itโs fully built and ready for its bee tenants to move in. Things you could include in the bee hotel include twigs, bark, pine cones and if you have a pet that uses straw, you can even re-use some of the straw to fill in the spaces. โ โ Time to make a bee (or bug) hotel!
What youโll need:
Any reclaimed wood or recycled small pallets are perfect for the frame. For a mini version you can use a recycled bird box
Twigs, sticks, pine cones, bark, straw, stones and reclaimed bricks or roof tiles
Any other forest treasures you can find on the forest floor
Some mud or soil and any plants you have handy too
