Wimbledon Common

The perfect family day out is at Wimbledon Common, which is one of the largest areas of common land in London at over 1140 acres. It has several ponds teaming with wildlife and offers a variety of outdoor spaces from open meadow fields to woodland and heathland too.

You can be fully immersed in nature here and do as much or as little as you want to whether it be a picnic, walking, running, tree climbing or cycling.

One of our favourite parts of the common is the path to Caesar’s Camp, an ancient Iron Age hillfort dating from 700 BC. The perfect opportunity for lovely conversations about human history.

We also recommend taking along a magnifying glass to go hunting for mini-beasts, the perfect place is around Fishponds Woods Nature Reserve. For lunch or a cup of tea and a slice of something sweet, check out the Windmill Cafe & Museum.
