Destinations we loveTop tips for reducing your carbon footprint

Nothing makes us happier than finding amazing family-friendly places to stay here in the UK, there are just so many incredibly beautiful places to visit. And of course we also run family friendly holidays to Tuscany so we’ve included that here too. We only ever recommend places we’ve actually stayed at ourselves so these are all tried and tested with kids in tow…so we know you’ll love them too. Time to get packing!

Villa Pia, Lippiano, Tuscany, Italy

…A Little Forest Folk favourite!

In 2019 we ran our first Little Forest Folk holiday to Villa Pia in Tuscany, Italy. This is one of the most idyllic places on earth. The Tuscan landscape is breathtaking and the award winning Villa Pia is the perfect family friendly holiday destination.

Set in over 5 acres, everything here is child-friendly. Facilities include a children’s swimming pool beside the adult pool (both heated year-round), sandpit, trampoline, cool indoor soft play room, all-weather tennis court, ping pong tables, a courtyard play area filled with small climbing frames, slides, toys and ride-ons. They also offer children’s cookery and art classes.

Depending on when you travel prices range from:

Adults: £600-935 per adult per week
Children (aged 2 to 12 years) £295-500 per child week.

Cotswolds Farm Park in Gloucestershire is owned and operated by Adam Henson, farmer and BBC Countryfile Presenter. There is a working farm with animals, a discovery barn, tractor school and a restaurant. For those experienced campers you can simply book your pitch, arrive and set up camp. This is a firm family favourite for a UK break and never a dull moment to be had.

Church Farm, Ardeley

Hertfordshire

Another favourite spot of our is Church Farm, Ardeley. Set in the beautiful village of Ardeley this working farm prides itself on offering a free-range experience for families. It’s a rustic and back to basics farm stay experience. They’re all about conserving wildlife and farming ecologically, which we love. There is camping, glamping in bell tents and even cabins available to book. And with a farm trail, woodland walk, cafe, farm shop and an opportunity to feed the animals, there is plenty to keep the whole family busy.

Depending on when you visit prices range from:

Camping pitches cost between £10.95-15.95 per night

Bell Tent hire for a long weekend starts at £395

Rustic wooden cabins start at £195 for a week for a family of 4

And farm entry to see the animals is included in the price.

Top tips to help your reduce your carbon footprint

We all know that travel is an essential part of life whether it be to work, to visit friends and family or even to holiday abroad. If you’d like to find ways to travel in a more environmentally friendly way, then check out our list of top tips below.

  • Choose UK breaks over trips abroad whenever you can

  • Take the train? If you’re holidaying abroad but not going too far and can get there without flying, then consider other forms of transport. Buses and trains are a good alternative for some destinations.

  • Go Direct. If you do fly further afield, then choose a direct flight. These flights take the most direct route to your destination and will help to reduce overall emissions.

  • Fly economy. If you fly economy your carbon footprint will be less than going business or first class due to the reduced amount of space economy seats take up on the plane.

  • Travel Light. Try to pack as little as possible, we know this is not always easy to do when travelling with children but the less you take onboard the better it is for the planet. You could use a lightweight suitcase instead of a standard one to help and take clothes that can be reworn.

  • Hire Electric. If you need to hire a car on holiday then see if there is an electric vehicle option available. They’re cheaper to run and better for the environment too.

  • Carbon Offset if you like. If you feel strongly about your carbon footprint when travelling then you can always choose offset your carbon footprint. There are lots of companies that now offer this service.
